Ladies turned from the daughters of Girls' School to their mothers — the women of the Upper East Side, whose images I gathered online and painted as composite figures, one woman's body paired with another's face. Somewhere between homage and caricature, the series asks how privilege pictures itself, and how little the public image of a person can have to do with the person underneath.
